Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 16, 2026

The short version: Your data stays on your computer. We don't have servers, user accounts, or analytics dashboards watching you. The only time data leaves your machine is when you translate — that text goes to OpenAI's API and comes right back.

What SelectAndTranslate stores

Everything below is stored locally on your computer and never sent to us:

We have no servers. There is no "our cloud." We cannot access, read, or retrieve any of this data.

What leaves your computer

When you use the translation feature, the selected text is sent to OpenAI's GPT-4o API for processing. This is necessary to provide AI-powered translations, vocabulary extraction, and etymology analysis.

What is sent:

What is not sent:

OpenAI's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy. Per OpenAI's API data usage policy, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.

What we collect about you

Nothing. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, no usage tracking. We don't know how many users we have, how often you use the app, or which features you prefer. We made this choice deliberately.

Accounts and authentication

SelectAndTranslate does not require or support user accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, and no email address needed. You download the app and use it.

Third-party services

The only third-party service SelectAndTranslate communicates with is:

Data export and deletion

Since all data is stored locally:

Children's privacy

SelectAndTranslate does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no data at all, there is nothing to address under COPPA or similar legislation.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page. Since we have no way to contact users (no accounts, no emails), checking this page is the only way to stay informed.
